ABOUT - The Life You Love

"When we share our stories, what it does is it opens up our hearts for other people to share their stories. And it gives us the sense that we are not alone on this journey."

- Janine Shepherd

The day that I realized how important my story could be for others just so happens to be the same day that I learned to accept and even appreciate my mental health journey.  Several therapists and psychiatrists later, I'm finally able to understand my symptoms and how to help relieve some of those symptoms.  Of course, to see the best version of you and to really relieve yourself of unwanted symptoms, you can't just talk to someone for an hour every two weeks or take an antidepressant nightly.

You have to take care of every part of your life - mind, body, spirit, and so much more.

This blog is the record of my journey to maintain and improve my mental health.

How does this help you?  I share my experiences, my knowledge, and my advice so you can take what works for you, leave what doesn't work for you, and reflect on your life.  If you find a post that truly resonates with you, read it and reread it until you get everything you need from it.  If you read one of my blog posts and feel that it doesn't work for you, that's okay!  Spend your energy only on what best serves you.  Hopefully I can help you find what that is.

"Never forget what you are, for surely the world will not. Make it your strength. Then it can never be your weakness. Armour yourself in it, and it will never be used to hurt you."

- George R. R. Martin

Let's talk about who I am so you know where my story is coming from.  I'll sprinkle in some fun facts along the way.  First and foremost, I am family.  I'm a sister, daughter, and girlfriend.  What makes my family history a little unique, though, is that I grew up as an Army brat.  Fun fact: My three younger sisters and I were all born in different states.

Second, I'm a mental health advocate and in "remission."  I've lived with mood disorders and inattention for several years and I'm constantly working on my mental health.  I studied psychology and interpersonal studies as an undergraduate student.  Now, I'm a Licensed Clinical Social Work Associate and I have a Master's of Social Work degree.  Fun fact: I went to The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill for my undergrad.  Go Heels!

Third, I am a person with many likes and dislikes, strengths and weaknesses, and goals.  I like coffee, fall, and reading.  Fun fact: I love iced pumpkin spice lattes.  I don't like any other pumpkin-flavored drinks or foods.  I don't like due dates, proofreading, or awkward silences.  My strengths are connecting with others and bullshitting my way through any situation.  My weaknesses are following through and creating plans (great for a blog, am I right?!). My goals are to become a successful therapist and blogger while staying healthy, happy, and involved.

Of course, there is so much more to me than I can express, but you'll find that out through following my blog and social media accounts 😉.

Now it's your turn!  Comment below and tell me a little bit about you.  What are your goals?  Strengths?  Likes?  Tell me what kind of blog posts you'd like see from me and let me know how I can help you!
